והוה לזמן סופא דשתא לעדן מפק מלכיא ושלח דוד ית יואב וית עבדוהי עמיה וית כל ישראל וחבילו ית בני עמון וצרו על רבה ודוד יתיב בירושלם:
byrwshlm ythyb wdwd rbh el wtsrw emwn bny yth wkhbylw yshral kl wyth emyh ebdwhy wyth ywab yth dwd wshlkh mlkya mpq ledn dshtha swpa lzmn whwh
At the return of the year, at the time when kings go out, David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem.

והוה לעדן רמשא וקם דוד מעל שיוויה והליך על אגר בית מלכא וחזא אתתא משתטפא על אגרא ואתתא שפירת חזו לחדא:
lkhda khzw shpyrth waththa agra el mshthTpa aththa wkhza mlka byth agr el whlyk shywwyh mel dwd wqm rmsha ledn whwh
At evening, David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. From the roof, he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to look at.

ושלח דוד ושאל לאתתא ואמר הלא דא בת שבע בת אליעם אתת אוריה חתאה:
khthah awryh athth alyem bth shbe bth da hla wamr laththa wshal dwd wshlkh
David sent and inquired after the woman. One said, “Isn’t this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, Uriah the Hittite’s wife?”

ושלח דוד אזגדין ודברה ואתת לותיה ושכיב עמה והיא מתדכיא מסובתה ותבת לביתה:
lbythh wthbth mswbthh mthdkya whya emh wshkyb lwthyh wathth wdbrh azgdyn dwd wshlkh
David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in to him, and he lay with her (for she was purified from her uncleanness); and she returned to her house.

ועדיאת אתתא ושלחת וחויאת לדוד ואמרת מעדיא אנא:
ana medya wamrth ldwd wkhwyath wshlkhth aththa wedyath
The woman conceived; and she sent and told David, and said, “I am with child.”

ושלח דוד לות יואב שדר לי ית אוריה חתאה ושדר יואב ית אוריה חתאה לות דוד:
dwd lwth khthah awryh yth ywab wshdr khthah awryh yth ly shdr ywab lwth dwd wshlkh
David sent to Joab, “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” Joab sent Uriah to David.

ואתא אוריה לותיה ושאל ליה דוד לשלם יואב ולשלם עמא ולשלם עבדי קרבא:
qrba ebdy wlshlm ema wlshlm ywab lshlm dwd lyh wshal lwthyh awryh watha
When Uriah had come to him, David asked him how Joab did, and how the people fared, and how the war prospered.

ואמר דוד לאוריא חות לביתך ושטוף רגלך ונפק אוריה מבית מלכא ונפקת בתרוהי סעודתא דמלכא:
dmlka sewdtha bthrwhy wnpqth mlka mbyth awryh wnpq rglk wshTwp lbythk khwth lawrya dwd wamr
David said to Uriah, “Go down to your house and wash your feet.” Uriah departed out of the king’s house, and a gift from the king was sent after him.

ושכב אוריה בתרע בית מלכא עם כל עבדי רבוניה ולא נחת לביתיה:
lbythyh nkhth wla rbwnyh ebdy kl em mlka byth bthre awryh wshkb
But Uriah slept at the door of the king’s house with all the servants of his lord, and didn’t go down to his house.

וחויאו לדוד למימר לא נחת אוריה לביתיה ואמר דוד לאוריה הלא מאורחא את אתי מא דין לא נחתתא לביתך:
lbythk nkhththa la dyn ma athy ath mawrkha hla lawryh dwd wamr lbythyh awryh nkhth la lmymr ldwd wkhwyaw
When they had told David, saying, “Uriah didn’t go down to his house,” David said to Uriah, “Haven’t you come from a journey? Why didn’t you go down to your house?”

ואמר אוריה לדוד ארונא וישראל ויהודה יתבין במטליא ורבוני יואב ועבדי רבוני על אפי ברא שרן ואנא איעול לביתי למיכל ולמשתי ולמשכב עם אתתי חיך וחיי נפשך אם אעביד ית פתגמא הדין:
hdyn pthgma yth aebyd am npshk wkhyy khyk aththy em wlmshkb wlmshthy lmykl lbythy ayewl wana shrn bra apy el rbwny webdy ywab wrbwny bmTlya ythbyn wyhwdh wyshral arwna ldwd awryh wamr
Uriah said to David, “The ark, Israel, and Judah, are staying in tents; and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord are encamped in the open field. Shall I then go into my house to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing!”

ואמר דוד לאוריה תיב הכא אף יומא דין ומחר אשלחינך ויתיב אוריה בירושלם ביומא ההוא וביומא דבתרוהי:
dbthrwhy wbywma hhwa bywma byrwshlm awryh wythyb ashlkhynk wmkhr dyn ywma ap hka thyb lawryh dwd wamr
David said to Uriah, “Stay here today also, and tomorrow I will let you depart.” So Uriah stayed in Jerusalem that day and the next day.

וקרא ליה דוד ואכל קדמוהי ושתי ורויה ונפק ברמשא למשכב בשוויה עם עבדי רבוניה ולביתיה לא נחת:
nkhth la wlbythyh rbwnyh ebdy em bshwwyh lmshkb brmsha wnpq wrwyh wshthy qdmwhy wakl dwd lyh wqra
When David had called him, he ate and drank before him; and he made him drunk. At evening, he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but didn’t go down to his house.

והוה בצפרא וכתב דוד אגרתא לות יואב ושדר ביד אוריה:
awryh byd wshdr ywab lwth agrtha dwd wkthb btspra whwh
In the morning, David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it by the hand of Uriah.

וכתב באגרתא למימר הבו ית אוריה לקביל אפי קרבא תקיפא ותתובון מבתרוהי ויתמחי וימות:
wymwth wythmkhy mbthrwhy wththwbwn thqypa qrba apy lqbyl awryh yth hbw lmymr bagrtha wkthb
He wrote in the letter, saying, “Send Uriah to the forefront of the hottest battle, and retreat from him, that he may be struck and die.”

והוה כד צר יואב על קרתא ויהב ית אוריה לאתרא דידע ארי גברין גברין תמן:
thmn gbryn gbryn ary dyde lathra awryh yth wyhb qrtha el ywab tsr kd whwh
When Joab kept watch on the city, he assigned Uriah to the place where he knew that valiant men were.

ונפקו אנשי קרתא ואגיחו קרבא עם יואב ואתקטיל מעמא מעבדי דוד ומית אף אוריה חתאה:
khthah awryh ap wmyth dwd mebdy mema wathqTyl ywab em qrba wagykhw qrtha anshy wnpqw
The men of the city went out and fought with Joab. Some of the people fell, even of David’s servants; and Uriah the Hittite died also.

ושלח יואב וחוי לדוד ית כל עסקי קרא:
qra esqy kl yth ldwd wkhwy ywab wshlkh
Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;
19
ופקיד ית אזגדא למימר כשציותך ית כל עסקי קרבא למללא עם מלכא:
mlka em lmlla qrba esqy kl yth kshtsywthk lmymr azgda yth wpqyd
and he commanded the messenger, saying, “When you have finished telling all the things concerning the war to the king,
20
ויהי אם ידלק רוגזא דמלכא ויימר לך מא דין אתקרבתון לקרתא לאגחא הלא ידעתון ית דירמון עליכון מן שורא:
shwra mn elykwn dyrmwn yth ydethwn hla lagkha lqrtha athqrbthwn dyn ma lk wyymr dmlka rwgza ydlq am wyhy
it shall be that, if the king’s wrath arise, and he asks you, ‘Why did you go so near to the city to fight? Didn’t you know that they would shoot from the wall?

מן קטל ית אבימלך בר ירבשת הלא אתתא רמת עלוהי פלגות רכב רחיא מן שורא ומית בתבץ למא אתקרבתון לשורא ותימר אף עבדך אוריה חתאה מית:
myth khthah awryh ebdk ap wthymr lshwra athqrbthwn lma bthbts wmyth shwra mn rkhya rkb plgwth elwhy rmth aththa hla yrbshth br abymlk yth qTl mn
Who struck Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? Didn’t a woman cast an upper millstone on him from the wall, so that he died at Thebez? Why did you go so near the wall?’ then you shall say, ‘Your servant Uriah the Hittite is also dead.’”

ואזל אזגדא ואתא וחוי לדוד ית כל דשלחיה יואב:
ywab dshlkhyh kl yth ldwd wkhwy watha azgda wazl
So the messenger went, and came and showed David all that Joab had sent him for.
23
ואמר אזגדא לדוד ארי תקיפו עלנא גבריא ונפקו לותנא לחקלא והוינא טרדין להון עד מעלנא דתרעא:
dthrea melna ed lhwn Trdyn whwyna lkhqla lwthna wnpqw gbrya elna thqypw ary ldwd azgda wamr
The messenger said to David, “The men prevailed against us, and came out to us into the field; and we were on them even to the entrance of the gate.

ושדו קשתיא בעבדיך מן שורא ואתקטילו מעבדי מלכא ואף עבדך אוריה חתאה מית:
myth khthah awryh ebdk wap mlka mebdy wathqTylw shwra mn bebdyk qshthya wshdw
The shooters shot at your servants from off the wall; and some of the king’s servants are dead, and your servant Uriah the Hittite is also dead.”

ואמר דוד לאזגדא כדין תימר ליואב לא יבאש בעינך ית פתגמא הדין ארי כדין וכדין תקטול חרבא אתקיף קרבא על קרתא ופגרה ותקפהו:
wthqphw wpgrh qrtha el qrba athqyp khrba thqTwl wkdyn kdyn ary hdyn pthgma yth beynk ybash la lywab thymr kdyn lazgda dwd wamr
Then David said to the messenger, “Tell Joab, ‘Don’t let this thing displease you, for the sword devours one as well as another. Make your battle stronger against the city, and overthrow it.’ Encourage him.”

ושמעת אתת אוריה ארי מית אוריה בעלה וספדת על בעלה:
belh el wspdth belh awryh myth ary awryh athth wshmeth
When Uriah’s wife heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband.
27
ועבר אבלא ושלח דוד וכנשה לביתיה והות ליה לאתו וילידת ליה בר ובאיש פתגמא דעבד דוד קדם יי:
yy qdm dwd debd pthgma wbaysh br lyh wylydth lathw lyh whwth lbythyh wknshh dwd wshlkh abla webr
When the mourning was past, David sent and took her home to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased Yahweh.
